KINDIG GEMS for 2022 - Part 1

KINDIG GEMS FOR 2022

2022 has been a great year for new book releases! I haven't quite found as much time to read as last year with work getting quite busy, but I have found some great GEMS nonetheless! Lets explore them together:

THE CHOSEN TWELVE

JAMES BREAKWELL

There are 22 candidates. There are 12 seats.

The last interstellar colony ship is down to its final batch of humans after the robots in charge unhelpfully deleted the rest. But rebooting a species and training them for the arduous task of colonisation isn’t easy – especially when the planet below is filled with monsters, the humans are more interested in asking questions than learning, and the robots are all programmed to kill each other.

But the fate of humanity rests on creating a new civilization on the planet below, and there are twelve seats on the lander. Will manipulation or loyalty save the day?

Kindig says: 'A fantastically creepy sci-fi in a brilliant setting, with wit and humour laced throughout – highly recommended! Thank you to Rebellion - Solaris for the ARC!

THE MAID

NITA PROSE

I am your maid. I know about your secrets. Your dirty laundry. But what do you know about me?

Molly the maid is all alone in the world. A nobody. She’s used to being invisible in her job at the Regency Grand Hotel, plumping pillows and wiping away the grime, dust and secrets of the guests passing through. She’s just a maid – why should anyone take notice?

But Molly is thrown into the spotlight when she discovers an infamous guest, Mr Black, very dead in his bed. This isn’t a mess that can be easily cleaned up. And as Molly becomes embroiled in the hunt for the truth, following the clues whispering in the hallways of the Regency Grand, she discovers a power she never knew was there. She’s just a maid – but what can she see that others overlook?

Kindig says: 'Overall, The Maid is a must-read for 2022 and I’m sure you will fall in love with Molly as much as I did! Thank you to HarperCollins UK – Harper Fiction for the ARC'

ONE FOR SORROW

HELEN FIELDS

One for sorrow, two for joy

Edinburgh is gripped by the greatest terror it has ever known. A lone bomber is targeting victims across the city and no one is safe.

Three for a girl, four for a boy

DCI Ava Turner and DI Luc Callanach face death every day – and not just the deaths of the people being taken hostage by the killer.

Five for silver, six for gold

When it becomes clear that with every tip-off they are walking into a trap designed to kill them too, Ava and Luc know that finding the truth could mean paying the ultimate price.

Seven for a secret never to be told…

But with the threat – and body count – rising daily, and no clue as to who’s behind it, neither Ava nor Luc know whether they will live long enough to tell the tale…

Kindig says: 'A gripping and high-stakes thriller you won’t be able to put down. Thank you to Avon Books for the ARC'

FIRST BORN

WILL DEAN

THE LAST THING A TWIN EXPECTS IS TO BE ALONE ...

Molly lives a quiet, contained life in London. Naturally risk averse, she gains comfort from security and structure. Every day the same.

Her identical twin Katie is her exact opposite: gregarious and spontaneous. They used to be inseparable, until Katie moved to New York a year ago. Molly still speaks to her daily without fail.

But when Molly learns that Katie has died suddenly in New York, she is thrown into unfamiliar territory. Katie is part of her DNA. As terrifying as it is, she must go there and find out what happened. As she tracks her twin's last movements, cracks begin to emerge. Nothing is what it seems. And a web of deceit is closing around her.

Kindig says: ''Will Dean has produced another brilliant and twisty thriller and I can’t wait to read whatever he writes next! Thank you to Hodder & Stoughton for the ARC'

WRONG PLACE WRONG TIME

GILLIAN MCALLISTER

It's every parent's nightmare.

Your happy, funny, innocent son commits a terrible crime: murdering a complete stranger.

You don't know who. You don't know why. You only know your teenage boy is in custody and his future lost.

That night you fall asleep in despair. Until you wake . . . and it is yesterday.

Every morning you wake up a day earlier, another day before the murder. Another chance to stop it.

Somewhere in the past lie the answers, and you don't have a choice but to find them...

Kindig says: 'An interesting twist on Gillian McAllister’s writing style but is beautifully plotted and perfectly paced to make a fantastic read that I struggled to put down. Thank you to Penguin Michael Joseph for the ARC'

Thank you so much to NetGalley, the publishers and the authors for allowing me to read their ARCs. Tune in tomorrow for 5 more of my Kindig gems for 2022 & keep checking kindig.co.uk for all the news on latest releases and upcoming bestsellers!
